As the semester is coming to an end I am finding myself reflecting on the past months of my WEPO class. WEPO has definitely been my most time consuming and challenging class of the semester but my favorite. We learned a lot of different aspects of writing and editing online and I would like to share how I now define a few words.
I would now define writing as something that creates a message. It doesn't always have to have a purpose and sometimes writing without a purpose can create a purpose later on. Writing is a form of composing and composing can be a form on editing. The words writing, editing and composing all come together in a web.
I would now define editing as improving a something without judging it. Editing is a very important aspect of writing but can also be done to things that are not written, for example a picture can be edited or even a garden.
I would now define composing as creating anything. Composing can be an outlet for people and even a way for them to express themselves. Composing is a beautiful thing and even a form of art at times.
Some key terms that I would connect to writing, editing and composing would be expressing, freedom, revision and creativity. All of these words branch off of the words writing, editing and composing.
Now that I have finished project 2 some time ago I can say that Project 2 did change my view on the words writing, editing and composing. It showed me that these three words have more than just surface level definitions. At times I thought that these words were more of a feeling.
Since being enrolled in WEPO I have found myself noticing aspects of composing even outside of the classroom. A few weeks ago i saw a girls name engraved into the cement on the sidewalk and it got me thinking. The girl who took a stick and wrote her name in wet concrete years ago probably did not realzie what she was doing at the time. She didn't consider this action to be composing and she most likely did not have a huge reasoning for this action. It was probably compolsive and that it composing also.
The biggest thing that I have learned from WEPO this semester is that there is more to writing, editing and composing that doing a project for a class, these things go on all around us and make the world beautiful.
