This evening I sat down and interviewed 3 of my friends on aspects of writing. This allowed me to get to know a little more about other peoples views on writing. First, I asked them to say what they thought when I said 8 different words. After looking over my answers that I received I have come to some conclusions about some aspects of it. It is intriguing how so many of my interviewers answers were so similar anyways the words I had given them were so broad. Writing is generally thought as something that is an act of putting thoughts onto some sort of platform. All of the people I interviewed seemed to forget to mention that writing doesn’t have to be words but it can also be something such as music. The most important aspect of writing seemed to be the design of writing when talking to my 3 interviewers. I realized when I asked my subjects what exigence is that no one knew. Then I tried to think of a definition for myself and realized that I did not know either. While chatting it up with my first subject “Jill” she mentioned how she writes in her head, which I found intriguing. She said that she is always making lists in her head and trying to memorize something that someone has said. I mentioned to Jill, Rachel and Stephanie how I hate when I get writers block, it is the worst part in my opinion. They quickly agreed that they too can’t stand wanting to writing but have some sort of road block in their head. We thought that this mostly happens when you are being forced to write about something. Rachel said that her favorite type of writing is journalism. Being able to just put her thoughts doesn’t on paper and out of her head. She said that she keeps a journal by her bead to write before she hoes to bed and when she wakes up. I thought that this was a good idea and was going to start doing it as well. When I asked my interviewers when they thought they wrote the most they all said when texting. Technology has become such a large part of our day in age that I was not surprised by this answer. Some could argue that we are writing more than ever through texting and others could argue that we are not writing early as much because of the lack of snail mail. My favorite quote from my interviews was when Rachel said “I love the editing process and seeing a piece of writing being improved time after time.” I thought this was a beautiful line and related to life in a way, improvements can always be made and things can always get better.
